Year 1 have been looking at, talking about and recreating Andy Goldsworthy nature inspired art work this half term. On Tuesday, while the sun was out we spent time outside creating our own artwork with natural materials.

In a morning, all the children in school arrive and line up in their classes and enjoy time chatting with their friends and having a bagel. Then they head into class and put their things away. Our first job is the register, ordering lunches and recording how we travel to school. Once this is done…

This afternoon, Year 1 have made fruit kebabs which they designed last week. They all enjoyed eating their kebabs.

In DT, Year 1 have been reviewing fruit kebabs. This is product research ahead of them designing and making their own fruit kebabs. 
 

Today, we have had chance to look at the spoons Year 1 children made for World Book Day. Thank you for everyone’s support in making spoons.

This week in science, we have started to sort plants into groups. We looked at the size, shape and colour of the plants petals to decide what sorting criteria we should use.

This week in Science, Year 1 have been using magnifying glasses to look at parts of flowers. They then drew a diagram of their flower and labelled the petals, stem, and leaves. 

In PE this half term, Year 1 have been practicing underarm and overarm throwing. We have discussed that overarm throwing is used when we need to throw for distance and underarm throwing is utilised when we want to throw accurately. We have been applying theses skills and knowledge in small group…

Today, we had a very exciting visitor in school. The author Sean Perkins came to visit the school. This morning, Sean read the school one of his amazing stories and this afternoon Year 1 and Year 2 took part in an imagination workshop. They all designed a tree house for a character to live…

During the afternoon, the weather was kind to us and we were able to see all of the animals outside. 

During our trip, Year 1 had the opportunity to hold a stick insect and a cockroach.
